My biggest project this term was directing a short film. The idea came to me one morning on the way to school and ever since, my knowledge and interest for the subject just grew.
"Dani" is a film written about a South Asian teen who wishes to pursue a career in film, but is taken aback from her parents' lack of support - the reason being that she's a girl and it's not a socially accepted career for females.
Over the course of my life, the number of times I've witnessed or experienced sexist comments relating to my choice of career path, just because it's uncommon in my community is astonishing. However, its my parents that keep me going and none of these comments mean anything to me at the end of the day.
But it's not the same case for a number of girls around the world. I've known many who had their opportunities taken away from them, or those that can't even dream of opportunity because of their families and lack of support.
My parents are the biggest reason I am where I am and because of their encouragement and support, I hope to start a conversation, in not just my community, but around the world. So that more families can open their eyes and give their daughters the opportunities they may not get otherwise.
It's my first time trying my hand at this - but I hope to make something bigger and better one day.
Would love to know what you think!!
